“Brilliant” (The New York Times) Soprano Marielle Murphy, a native of Carmel, CA, has performed on operatic and concert stages across the United States and Europe. In the fall of 2023, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Oscar in David Alden’s production of Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, under the baton of Carlo Rizzi. Her varied repertoire includes the roles of Konstanze (The Abduction from the Seraglio) by Mozart, Cungegonde (Candide, Bernstein), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos, Strauss), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart) among many others. A frequent concert artist, she has performed such works as the Brentano Lieder by Richard Strauss, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Gabriel/Eve in Haydn’s Creation, Händel’s L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, and is an avid recitalist. Marielle made her European debut at the Salzburg Festival as La Charmeuse in Massenet’s Thaïs alongside Plàcido Domingo with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Various guesting and residency engagements followed across the German-speaking region of Europe, with houses such as Theater Aachen, Oper Leipzig, Opera Bern, Hildesheim, and Theater Münster, where she was employed as a resident solo artist for four seasons. Marielle has won awards from such competitions as the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, the George London Foundation, the Licia Albanese - Puccini Foundation, New Jersey State Opera, Henry and Maria Holt Scholarship, and the Carmel Music Society. She has also performed in the final rounds of the Francisco Viñas Competition (Barcelona), the Belvedere Competition (South Africa), and the Concorso Angelo Loforese (Milan).
